Into the USA and Glacier Park
We decided to spend the night in West Glacier where our motel room was the quite the smallest room we stayed in although it had everything we needed. It was a very cold night so thank goodness the heating was efficient. In the morning we will drive back over the pass to St Mary for breakfast. I did offer to drive but Alistair felt it would be less of a strain to do the driving rather than gaze out over the void!
The road is beautiful and the scenery magnificent, water carved gorges, glaciers and moutain peaks. We are climbing all the time and the road is just wide enough for cars to pass. At the highest point of the road there are roadworks and it actually snows whilst we are waiting.
According to the literature driving the "Going-to-the-sun Road" is a highlight of any park visit. We had been given a list of points of interest so I am about to make sure we see them all. Alistair it must be noted is the driver at this point.
Today we finally cross the border in to the U.S. where the customs people give us an excellent map of Montana. I notice there is a scenic route through the Glacier Park National park and point out it is practically on our route anyway. We started from St Mary where we bought the worst sandwich ever and the at the park entrance we were given maps and literature in exchange for our entrance fee.
