The Wildlife - the birds

Above is a Clark's Nutcracker. We threw bread from our picnic and he was prepared to fly quite closes to pick it up. A local lady who visited the park regularly said she had not seen one before so we were pleased to have spotted a pair of them.

Below is the osprey that refuses to fly. We met a local man who told us the story of the parent ospreys who regularly lay their eggs at this site. The parent birds who hatched two offspring this year have already flown south. One of the offspring refuses to fly and is now being fed by his sister. We could clearly hear his food soliciting calls. Soon she will have to fly south and her brother will have to make a choice. The osprey is the little black shape on the top of the tower of rock in the foreground..........honest ........I know it's there.

The bald eagle was perched on a burnt out tree next to the river where you drive in. He was attracting some very professional looking photographers with very professional looking equipment.

Here are the photos of the wildlife we saw. We did not see a bear because being polite English people we did not like to block the road so drove on to find a safe place to park.....there wasn't one! Also we were in a luxury hire car ....with a four track we might just have chanced the gutter. The American drivers on the side of the road where you had to look down to see the bear had no such inhibitions. Still we did see lots of other wildlife.
