Christmas and New Year in the sunshine

After leaving Paris I flew back to Manchester for one day to tidy up house and admin, have haircut and pack clothes for a holiday in the sunshine of Tenerife. Here we are on our first morning at Las Rosas having breakfast on the patio. A little bit later and the parasol is essential.

Daily routine
After breakfast Alistair would go off for his two hours of tennis.

1. Getting ready to play

2. Waiting for partner to serve.

3. Thanks for a good game.

After a busy morning of exercise Alistair took the rest of the day at a more relaxed pace. Reading on the patio and going out for an afternoon cake were popular activities.
My main exercise was taken every morning in the pool whilst Alistair was playing tennis. I swam every day (including Christmas Day) for somewhere between half and three-quarters of an hour. This translates to 800-1200 metres / half to three-quarters of a mile. I was hoping this would offset my increased garlic bread, puddings and wine consumption ....vain hope!!
Christmas Day
We had our Christmas dinner in full British style with our friends Barrie and Margaret. John in the red hat was our host at the Copper Kettle restaurant. This was the first time in 37 years that I had not cooked a family Christmas dinner at home and I felt quite nostalgic for that satisfying moment moment when everyone is sitting down with full plates and glasses.

New Year
The festivities also started with a meal at the Copper Kettle but unfortunately Barrie and Margaret were unable to join us as Margaret had a tummy bug that day. In Los Gigantes the dancing in the square does not get going until after the fireworks at midnight. We were ideally placed on the Las Rosas complex for viewing lots of firework displays in the area and could even see the main display on the islan of Gomera.
We arrived home on January 2nd to a cloudy Manchester and a daily temperature drop of 17 degrees. Breakfast was porage and we ran the central heating on continuous for a while.
Still soon we would be going to visit Nick and Michie and meet our new granddaughter born on December 29th but more of this in the next post.
