Two weeks in the sun

We left a cold Macclesfield behind and flew off for some sunshine.

My friend Dian came for the first week. This was her first visit to Tenerife. Here is the classic shot from the viewpoint with the cliffs in the background.

An evening shot taken on our way to a restaurant that serves a delicious bean soup although our waiter may have trained at the Manuel school for waiters!.

When it was too hot to do anything but sit in the shade Dian joined me on the Nintendo Brain training sessions. She did not always believe the result.

We took a taxi up to the hill village of Masca for lunch. Alistair had walked the gorge at Christmas so he had seen the fire damage round this pretty village. The cafe where we had ate on our last visit had been destroyed so we tried the one next to the church. Orders went down to the courtyard below in a basket and came up in a dumb waiter. We had a selection of tapas including goat's cheese to dip in palm oil which I enjoyed. Dian bought me a jar of the palm oil to bring home but dipping cheddar cheese with a snow covered Macclesfield outside just wasn't the same.

Our friends Arnold and Elvira joined us for the second week. They had been staying at the Parador on El Hierro. The picture below shows us with lights of Los Gigantes behind us. We are on our way back from dining at a new fish restaurant. Luckily this was a great success as two of other favourite places to eat proved disappointing this time.

The weather was too hot to walk but our last afternoon when there was some cloud about Alistair and I set off for a walk. The plan was to walk along an inland ridge parallel with coast and then walk down to sea level and catch the local bus back. Finding the path starting point was not easy and after viewing the proposed route we made a sensible decision to walk along the coast. We came across a shower in the middle of nowhere with a sign saying it had been provided by the local council. Further along we came across another shower but this one was definitely the up market version provided by the expensive hotel complex due to open shortly.

The joy of a digital camera is a quick re-take when you have removed the offending branch!

We ended our walk in Alcala and caught a bus back.
