Norway by boat
The Newcastle to Stavanger
ferry route is closing at the end of August. This was our last chance to visit Liz and family by car and it was pleasing not to have to worry about how much luggage we carried.
We left a rainy England behind and the sun shone for the next eight days.
Below is our cabin Solbua (the single storey building) which was up the hill from Obrestad harbour on the coast south of Stavanger. The accommodation was excellent with heated floors and dishwasher but no microwave or kettle. Liz and Kjetil lent us their microwave...evidently Norwegians do not go in for kettles. I had taken my laptop so I appreciated the free broadband (could download but not upload).
At the entrance to the harbour was an art work. I didn't know this as we walked down to the harbour and thought I could see seals. However on closer inspection it was concrete casts. These represent boats and there were a lot of them......boat graveyard? No label or explanation visible.

Norway seems to go in for art installations (big and small) a lot. Three lighthouses within easy reach had modern art exhibitions and/or video happenings. We also enjoyed the coffee and waffles that were often available. Once we had to make do with free chocolate cake as it was the end of the day and there were no waffles left. There was an outdoor concert by Norway's most well known blues guitarist at Obrestad light house but the tickets were expensive and anyway we could hear it two fields away!
