Gardeners at work

Social life and childcare permitting we have been busy in the garden when the sun shines. The back garden is looking tidy although there are a few gaps still to be filled where plants have died or been given away. Alistair managed to give a mature hydrangea away to someone at the tennis club. Evidently it has gone to live in another Barbara's garden!

Here are our garden centre purchases waiting for their new homes.

Last year we took out a large bush at the front of the house. Eventually I managed to track down the plant I wanted to put in its place. When we came to prepare the planting hole we discovered that we had not got out all the roots from the old plant. At the bottom of the hole were lots of stones left behind by the builders some thirty odd years ago. This job was turning into a major project!

Finally the ground was ready and the new plant was in place although it is going to be a few years before it grows to fill up the space.

We added a few flowers to keep it company for the moment.

Tonight I shall have long soak with the luxurious Jo Malone bath oil and candle Kate me sent for Mother's Day.

Tomorrow the back garden is on the agenda.
